Patrick Owen

Born in the Midwest and brought up in California, the child of parents engaged in a small farming business, Patrick loved to paint the flowers and landscape elements of his surroundings. After high school he began to study with well known artists such as Sebastian Capells from Spain and California plein air artists such as Scott Christiansen and Ray Roberts.

The strongest influences on Patrick's painting have been landscape painters of the 19th and 20th centuries. As a result his canvases painted initially en plein air and finished in the studio contain fluid brushstrokes and the contrasting complimentary colors preferred by the Romantic Realists.

Patrick's landscape paintings express his deep sensitivity toward his environment, the climatic moods of each scene and the special characteristics of each still life he chooses to paint.
